I grew up in the Philippines and we have had a few dogs: Honey; Douglas and Pluto. It was easy to take care of dogs back in our country because as I remembered, we did not buy dog food because we fed them left over of our own food and we did not bring them to a vet for checkup or shots. All of them turned out okay. However, the hardest part was keeping them safe. Believe it or not, some people in our country eat dogs or anything they can get their hand on any animals, specially when they were drinking.
Why did I bring it up? I guess I was just reminiscing about our pets as well as the way you need to care for a pet here in the US. My kids has been asking for a pet for years and we did not get them one until this weekend. The reason we did not get them before was the responsibility that came with it. I guess this time is different because they are grown up. They also put up their own money saved for the purchase. They have been thinking of which breed to get and when I texted them last Friday of a picture of two new born Jack Russel Terrier, they fell in-love with it.
We picked up Cooper, well that was the name we agreed upon last Friday over dinner, at SalemNJ from a breeder. He was one of the three pups they were selling. I guess this will test how well my kids will be responsible in taking good care of him. I hope that their interest will not diminish like when they had Pippen many years ago, a hamster. Right now my kids are pampering him and my wife was just worried that he will stink up the house. As for myself, I will get a new subject to photograph not to mention somebody to sit with while watching TV when I am home alone, or somebody to get me out of the couch and out of the house.
