Need to tell you about the hotel that we stayed in Cebu, Shangri La’s Mactan Resort and Spa. It was a shame that we only got to stay for the night. The food was great with entertainment and the sceneries, you have got to check out their website, better yet stop by for a visit. You will not regret it.
I woke up and walked by the balcony and greeted by the green trees overlooking the sea and a gorgeous sunny day, and below a man with a weed wacker and with face mask cutting the grass, just found it odd. I guess I am used to seeing landscapers/gardeners using mowers either lawn mowers or riding mowers.
Actually, we were running late since our companions were already at the restaurant for breakfast. We hurried up and caught up with them. So much food and so little time. After breakfast, we got ourselves ready and waited for our ride to take us around the area.
First stop, another famous place in Cebu was the Lapu-Lapu monument. This was the where Lapu-Lapu, a native chieftain of that place overpowered and defeated a Spanish force lead by Magellan. And yet somehow, the Spaniards still colonized the whole Philippines.
We spent time in the area to take pictures and walk around the park. After that we went to a nearby market where we bought obligatory “pasalubong” (souvenirs). Then we ate lunch in the restaurant wherein you have to pick live fish from their aquarium and they will cook it different ways.
After that big lunch, we then visited a famous guitar place, Alegre Guitar Factory. It was my first time to see how guitars are made and everything string instruments. My wife bought me a ukulele and could not believe how much it was. I already have two and she insisted to buy me another one, who am I to deny such kindness.
Our group decided to buy local pastries and they buy their local lechon (roasted pork). You can’t believe how long the trip was from the guitar factory to the pastry store, it seemed forever. I believe it took us more than 2 hours to travel about 7 miles. It was crazy. We got to buy the pastries but we were not able to buy the lechon since the restaurant already closed for the day.
We then checked in to hotel near the airport since our flight will not be until dawn the next day. We grabbed dinner in the hotel and retired to our own rooms. My wife and I decided to book for a massage in the hotel and you could not believe how cheap it was.
Overall, our Cebu trip was amazing. Thank you Ellen for everything. I have several pictures for the second day and you can click the picture above or click here to see them all.
